Phoenix Coyotes’ Brett MacLean given CPR

Twenty-three-year-old Phoenix Coyotes forward Brett MacLean is in intensive care at a Canadian hospital after the team said he suffered a ”cardiac emergency” during a pickup hockey game.

“Brett was playing hockey last night in Owen Sound, Ontario when he suffered a medical emergency,” said Coyotes general manager Don Maloney. “Brett received CPR on site and was taken to a local hospital by ambulance where he was treated.”

New Jersey Devils forward Steve Bernier was given a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for ramming Los Angeles Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi into the boards from behind.

New study: Hockey teams in black jerseys draw more penalties

The New York Rangers beat the Ottawa Senators in Game 7 of their series to move into the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Both teams are among the most penalized in the entire league. But according to the latest research, they’d be spending much more time in the penalty box if they wore black jerseys.

According to a new study that’ll be published next month in the journal of Social Psychological and Personality Science, NHL teams were assessed 10.2% more penalty minutes when they wore black jerseys.

NHL commissioner asked to ban fighting

Consumer advocate Ralph Nader wants to ban fighting in the National Hockey League.

Nader, who is founder of the League of Fans —a group that encourages social and civic responsibility in sports — wrote an open letter to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman saying, “it’s time to ban fighting and outlaw all blows to the head.”
