Video: The Toronto Blue Jays made their first triple play in 33 years
The Toronto Blue Jays made their first triple play since Sept. 21, 1979.
It happened in the third inning of the Blue Jays game against the Kansas City Royals Friday night.
KC had runners on first and second, when Eric Hosmer lined out to first baseman Adam Lind.
He stepped on the bag to double off Yuniesky Betancourt.
Lind then threw to shortstop Yunel Escobar to retire Alex Gordon.
According to the Society of American Baseball Research, there have been 688 triple plays since 1876.
