Video: Soccer star Fabrice Muamba makes emotional return
Fans cheered soccer star Fabrice Muamba who made his first public appearance since collapsing on the field last March.
The 24-year-old had a heart attack and collapsed in front of 36,000 fans when his Bolton Wanderers played Tottenham Hotspur on March 17.
The two teams played again Wednesday in Bolton in the United Kingdom.
“I wish I was playing today,” Muamba said.
It was an emotional time for Muamba who shed a few tears as he saw the outpouring of support when he walked onto the field.
Think about it: Muamba’s heart stopped for 78 minutes. A cardiologist, who just happened to be in the stands among the Tottenham fans, helped save him. Muamba received several defibrillator shocks on the field and in the ambulance.
Muamba has made a remarkable recovery. He was released from the hospital just two weeks ago.
“This is a special place: the support has been overwhelming and I am just grateful for that,” Muamba said. “I am OK. I am getting stronger every day. I am happy to be back. I am just happy to be able to speak to people again and walk freely.”
It’s truly a miracle that he’s alive and in such incredible shape as his recovery continues.
