Check out the video.

New Jersey Devils forward Steve Bernier was given a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for ramming Los Angeles Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi into the boards from behind.

It happened during the first period of Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Scuderi covered the ice with blood after getting a large cut on the nose.

The Kings scored three power play goals during the penalty.

They went on to beat the Devils 6-1 to win their first Stanley Cup.

Kings where a better team. No question about it

Awful call, Gionta was hit from behind on the same play and no whistle. It is a shame, this call ruined an exciting Stanley Cup playoff season. Not sure if I can tune in next year.

OK, so what do we learn from this? Dwight King nails Alex Pietrangelo in the Kings-Blues series in much the same way, with the same physical damage to Pietrangelo. (Blood, knocked out of ability to play) and the result is a two minute penalty, and a resulting removal of the Blues best player. Now, when Bernier does the same thing to Scuderi…5 minutes and game misconduct allowing Kings awesome powerplay in final game of the season.

Inconsistent rulings means either the League officiating is incompetently inconsistent (and the supervisors don’t really care about that), or there is favoritism being played. Which is it?
