Video: Danica Patrick crashes at Daytona

July 6, 2012 NASCAR 4 Comments

Danica Patrick had one of the best runs of her NASCAR career at Daytona Friday night, but it ended in a hard crash at the Nationwide Series Subway Jalapeno 250.

Patrick led for 13 laps. But with just 17 laps to go, Patrick tried to avoid an accident in front of her. She darted to the inside to miss Jeffrey Earnhardt’s car. She clipped a bumper and headed on a collision course for the inside wall.

She wasn’t injured, but she was disappointed.

“I thought we were going to win tonight,” Patrick said. “It kind of felt like the IndyCar days when you were close a couple of times. It’s just frustrating when that’s the case. What are you going to do? There was an accident happening in front of me, and the best thing that you can do is try and get around it.”

Patrick was feeling optimistic about her chances of winning the race.

“It’s the best frustration that you can have,” Patrick said. “You thought you were going to get to victory lane. That’s the best frustration you can have. It’s also the pinnacle of sad, too, because it could have been.”

@Dennis You should do some research before you make such claims. She has won 1 race in her career and that was a fuel mileage win if you know what that means. And that was Indy racing with her being in 117 races. She is now racing in Nationwide, which is the minor leagues compared to the Nascar Sprint Cup Series. She is 0 for 44 since coming to Nascar. I’m not saying she will never get lucky and win a race in Nationwide. She is racing for a top team and most people seem afraid to race her because she complains so much. Nobody wants to look like a bully. Talk about preferential treatment. But she won’t ever win a Sprint Cup race. She just isn’t very good. What logic would say someone with 150 plus races and only 1 win in lower competition would make it to the major leagues and do well?

If you want to talk about haters I think that might apply more to you. Her presence means those with more talent, including plenty of women who have shown potential won’t get the opportunity. This is all about marketing. She has made a name for herself through her less than classy commercials and enough people overlook talent in the age of the reality star to make Nascar overlook fairness and decency.

If you watch any race she is in most of those who consistently do better than her get very little attention. It is a joke and a black eye on Nascar. Most actual racing fans see this, but some buy into the hype and can’t do the math to see she is a marginal talent at best. With 1 race strategy win in over 150 races you cannot make any other conclusion. She is no up and coming star. There are plenty of those out there who deserve the opportunities she hasn’t earned. Unfortunately this kind of favoritism keeps some of those talents from ever making it. This kind of unfairness would not go over in any other sport. She would have been out of any other sport after her first year.

@Dennis Since you have trouble with simple math I doubt you know what that circle is that you mentioned. Perhaps you should take your Danica poster and go watch the Kardashians. I am sure she is a wonderful driver as well. No doubt you would be touting her if she ever decides to give it a shot.

She thought she was going to win? SO (blank’in) funny!!

She thought she was going to win? Lol. There are 30 drivers in Nationwide alone that are better than her. It is a black eye on the sport of Nascar for hyping this overrated bimbo. She has one real win to her career and that was an Indy car win on a fuel gamble. She has had a lot of starts. She is no rookie. They should start covering real rookies who are already much better than she is.
