Are the Atlanta Braves’ new batting practice caps racist or nostalgic?
The Atlanta Braves are bringing back what some call the “screaming Indian” logo for their batting practice caps in 2013.
Every few years, all 30 Major League Baseball teams get new designs for their batting practice caps, but for some reason the Braves have decided to go with questionable imagery that they used from 1967 to 1989.

The Braves moved to their current primary logo in 1990. But for 2013, the team decided to take a step back in time for their batting practice caps — in so many ways.
Some will say the logo is racist and insensitive. Others will say it’s nostalgic.
Given the debate that’s bound to ensue, the Atlanta Braves brought back a logo design that clearly defies rational thought.
if this is racist maybe we should go after the “RED SKINS” and their logo. if that name is not racist, than nothing is.
I am an American Indian and I do not find this racist at all as a matter of fact I say shut the hell up and find something real to worry about.

Let me get this straight – the NFL Redskins can continue to call themselves an obvious racist nickname, but a BATTING PRACTICE cap showing an Indian is the real offender? Just who is getting butthurt over this? Sounds like a slow day for the sports media. BTW, I’m native American, and neither I nor my friends and relatives see anything offensive whatsoever with this cap. If anything, I’m offended that the media feels like they have to come to our defense over something as innocuous as a cap that very few people will ever see, and even fewer will see up close. Want to make an issue over something that needs to change? Try getting Washington to change their name from the highly offensive ‘Redskins’ to something a little more racially sensitive. The ‘Braves’ would be a great nickname option to consider.
