Texas vs. UCLA: Watch This Violent Hit

September 17, 2011 Big 12, NCAAFB, Pac-12 1 Comment

Check out this incredibly violent hit. Texas Longhorn Marquise Goodwin (No. 84) really laid out UCLA Bruins’ Andrew Abbott (No. 26) in this illegal helmet-to-helmet hit.

It happened with about a minute to go in the first half. Texas was leading 21-7 at the time in the Rose Bowl.  It drew a 15-yard penalty.

Now you know why the NFL fines players for helmet-to-helmet contact. There’s no room for that kind of contact in college football either.

I’m hoping Goodwin made a serious mistake and doesn’t believe in taking out his opponent. It’s one thing to deliver a hard tackle or block. It’s quite another to deliver a blow like that one.

Abbott suffered a concussion, so he was out for the game.

Texas went on to win 49-20.

it wasn’t helmet to helmet; the crown of his helmet was under the bruin’s face-mask which caused the dislodged helmet.
