Report: Auburn paid players, altered grades under Gene Chizik and Will Muschamp

Several former Auburn University football players have accused the program of altering grades to insure eligibility, offering several thousand dollars to players to entice them to stay at the school instead of entering the NFL draft and knowingly violating NCAA recruiting rules, according to a report by former New York Times and Sports Illustrated columnist Selena Roberts.

If the allegations are true, they could cost Auburn its 2011 BCS national title.

Former University of Alabama athletics director Mal Moore reportedly needs a lung transplant, according to the school’s new athletics director Bill Battle.

“He has a lung condition and is in need of a lung transplant,” Battle told WJOX FM’s “The Opening Drive.” “As I understand it, he’s got to build his body up to be stronger than what it was at least a week ago to be able to handle the stress that comes with a transplant. Auburn University said the historic oak trees at Toomer’s Corner, that fans rolled with toilet paper after the Auburn Tigers won a football game, are too far gone after being poisoned and will be removed — after a final ceremonial rolling following the A-Day game on Apr. 20.

“The Oaks at Toomer’s Corner have been a part of Auburn tradition for generations,” said Debbie Shaw, Auburn University’s vice president for alumni affairs. “Their removal will in no way diminish the Auburn spirit, which has grown even stronger during these past two years.”
