SNL: And you thought fired Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice was bad (Video)

NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” took on the case of fired Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice by finding an even more menacing basketball coach.

Rice was fired last week after a video showed him verbally and physically abusing players on his team.

But SNL wants you to know that Rice’s behavior is nothing compared to how Middle Delaware State coach Sheila Kelly acts.

Louisville’s Kevin Ware after breaking leg: “You guys go win this thing.”

Louisville’s Kevin Ware delivered an inspiring message to his Cardinals teammates after he broke his leg in the Elite Eight game against Duke.

He was lying in front of the Louisville bench in the first half. His right leg was so badly broken that the bone was showing through his skin. Ware called his teammates over.

“Don’t worry about me,” Ware said according to CBS’ Tracy Wolfson. “I’ll be okay, you guys go win this thing.”

Report: UConn’s Jim Calhoun is retiring

UConn men’s basketball coach Jim Calhoun is retiring.

NBC Connecticut is reporting that Calhoun’s retirement is imminent.

Calhoun, 70, has led the Connecticut Huskies to three national championships during his 26 years as head coach.

His last title was in 2011. The Huskies’ men’s basketball team won national championships in 1999 and 2004 as well.

Syracuse Fires Asst. Basketball Coach Bernie Fine

Syracuse University fired assistant head basketball coach Bernie Fine in the wake of a child sexual abuse investigation.

“At the direction of Chancellor Cantor, Bernie Fine’s employment with Syracuse University has been terminated, effective immediately,” Kevin Quinn, the school’s senior vice president for public affairs, said in a statement.

Video: Feds, Police Remove Evidence From Syracuse Basketball Coach Bernie Fine’s House

The U. S. Secret Service, New York State Police and Syracuse police searched Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine’s house and his SUVs the day after Thanksgiving. They took pictures, looked through trash and removed three filing cabinets in a raid that lasted well into the evening, according to The Post-Standard.

James Cohen, an assistant professor of law at Fordham University and a criminal defense attorney, told the newspaper that federal authorities could claim jurisdiction over the case if there is evidence of sexual acts involving children who are transported across state lines or of there is evidence of child pornography.

Syracuse’s Jim Boeheim: “I’m Not Joe Paterno”

Syracuse head basketball coach Jim Boeheim doesn’t believe the child molestation allegations levied against his long-time assistant coach Bernie Fine and he said that he’s not covering up for a friend.

“I’m not Joe Paterno,” Boeheim said. “Somebody didn’t come and tell me Bernie Fine did something and I’m hiding it. I know nothing. If I saw some reason not to support Bernie, I would not support him. If somebody showed me a reason, proved that reason, I would not support him. But until then, I’ll support him until the day I die.”

Syracuse’s Bernie Fine Investigated For Alleged Child Molestation

Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine is being investigated on allegations of child molestation, according to the Syracuse Police Department.

“We are in the very early stages of an investigation,” Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan told The Post-Standard. “Information was brought to us (Thursday).”

Fine was placed on administrative leave Thursday night.

Police wouldn’t provide details about the investigation, but ESPN is reporting that Fine is accused of molesting a former Syracuse University ball boy, who is now 39 years old.
