Auburn Coach Gus Malzahn’s Wife: Auburn Players “Aren’t The Most Intelligent People”

Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is considered one of the most innovative minds in college football.
Despite Auburn’s 42 to 14 loss to No. 2 Alabama in the Iron Bowl, and a 7-5 season this year, Malzahn is still highly regarded.
He’s been mentioned as a potential head coach at the University of North Carolina, among other schools.
He was instrumental in bringing star quarterback Cam Newton to Auburn for the 2010 season and he helped lead the Tigers to the BCS National Championship.
But a YouTube video of Malzahan’s wife, Kristi, could have a negative impact on his future coaching career. It’s also embarrassing to Auburn University. And it suddenly disappeared.

Dr. Ronnie Floyd, a pastor, interviewed Kristi Malzhan on Oct. 6 in front of a Christian group in Arkansas. She made several controversial statements about ESPN football analyst and college coaching legend Lou Holtz, former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, Auburn sophomore running back Michael Dyer, and Auburn players who she says “aren’t the most intelligent people out there.”
John M. Phillips, a sports agent who runs The Breakthrough Sports Agency, originally uploaded the video on YouTube on Nov. 25. In fact, several copies of the video were uploaded on YouTube, but they’ve been removed over the past several days. Gone. Vanished. Eliminated. Hmmm.
Fortunately, we’ve transcribed Kristi Malzahn’s most controversial statements in the original video for your reading enjoyment:
- On working with Auburn players. “It goes to a place of questioning his integrity and his character and his intelligence because a group of 18 to 22 year olds did not perform on the field like they should have. And if you’ve worked with 18 to 22 year old individuals, most of the time they’re not the most intelligent people that are out there anyway. We’re the nuts because we’re willing to base our whole entire lives on what they decide to do for the day.”
- On Auburn RB Michael Dyer: “He has a little bit of an attitude. He carries himself with a little confidence that we have to kick around every now and then. But he’s a great kid.”
- On former Auburn QB Cam Newton: “He is cute. Pretty boy. I love him, but don’t tell Gus.”
- On meeting with Lou Holtz: “We got to go to Lou’s house. Gus was way impressed. I kept saying, ‘He has a lisp or something. There’s something going on with his mouth. I can’t really understand what he’s saying. And Gus, was like, ‘Shut up!’”
Kristi Malzahn is certainly quite a character.
Insert foot in mouth.

What’s wrong with what she said? She was answering questions and being totally honest. People are taking things out of context. 18-21 year old kids AREN’T THE SMARTEST people or make the smartest decisions……what isn’t truthful about that.
Michael Dyer DOES have an attitude and needs to be kicked around to get his head out of his ass! Everything she said is true!!!!
