Video: Watch Nelson Rivas’ brutal MLS soccer headbutt

August 5, 2012 Eastern Conference, SOCCER 2 Comments

Check out the video.

Montreal Impact defender Nelson Rivas delivered a brutal headbutt to the Philadelphia Union’s Antoine Hoppenot at Saputo Stadium in Montreal.

That resulted in a retaliatory shove from the Union’s Jack McInerney, red cards for Rivas and McInerney, and lots of excitement on the field.

“We always fight for each other,” said the Union’s manager John Hackworth. “So I think that’s what you saw Jack McInerney doing. He’s a young player who watches his teammate get headbutted, and he’s sticking up for his player.”

“I think, in general, Nelson is an intimidating defender,” said Impact manager Jesse Marsch. “As a starting point, I don’t think he needs to respond like that to show how physically intimidating he is. All competitive players have moments where they lose it, where they feel like they’re not going to back down. I’m certainly hopeful that this is a one-game suspension, because Nelson is an important guy for us.”

Montreal won 2-0.

What a “FLOP.” That was no viscious head-butt. They was both wrong, but to call Rivas a thug, come on!
